The market for recorded music today is in a major upheaval. The internet has caused overwhelming changes in how music is distributed. With these changes have come repeated calls for changes in the legal structure of IP rights that apply to music. Many of the proposed changes to the music copyright system include a restructuring of the role of the performing rights organizations (PROs) and the manner in which rights to music are cleared.
